"The Man in the Window"
I find this photograph quite disturbing. All of the cameras— my camera. The intensity of the man’s gaze through the window. The phone camera peering up at the caller. I feel unsettled. We carelessly move through life unaware of who is watching, what is watching. Our acceptance of this reveals a transparency within us, framing our lives like the window framing the man.
“Our things”
old things of Ours.
crammed in a large box to be taken
or tossed away.
eagerly searching for hidden treasures,
priced at $4.99.
“The Plight of Success”
The e n d l e s s cascade of the 9-5.
Every 20 somethings nightmare.
“The windows of success!” (They never end)
There was room for us all.
(If you were lucky you got a view)
Now we all get one (a window)
As we sit in our beds, staring at a screen.
Looking to the left, seeing that same view.
But only a few smile.
PRIDE, 2023
This photograph is sweet to me.
The soft smile of the woman on the left.
The excitement of taking a group photo.
Some finally finding and feeling acceptance.
After all they do say,
"Every one is welcome"
“The Dreamer”
I hope his dreams are sweet.
Sweet like freshly squeezed orange juice.
I hope his dreams are an escape.
An escape from the ground he sleeps on.
I hope his dreams are kind.
Kind like a mother’s touch, soft and warm.
I hope he’s dreaming.
I hope he dreams.
“The Drummer and the Bride"
This image has always drawn me. There’s so much eye contact, perhaps too much. The gazes from the woman and the boy share two different stories. I’m not sure what stories they tell.
